INTRODUCING DESIGN ESSENTIALS--Getting Started

At the heart of Canon Creative is a piece of software developed by Canon that provides you with a wide variety of decorative templates created by experienced graphic designers. You can use these templates with ease to produce attractive and professional-looking documents -- such as brochures, flyers, newsletters, menus, personalized stationery, or business cards--in the minimum of time. You can modify the templates to better suit your own personal style by changing backgrounds, coloring, layout, and text. You can even print a design on a T-shirt.

Taking a Guided Tour
Even before you install Design Essentials, you can take an interactive, guided tour of the product. This tour introduces the product features, and demonstrates how easily you can produce professional-looking results. To start the tour before you install Design Essentials, insert the Canon Creative CD #2 in your CD drive, then run DEtour.exe. (For example, if your CD drive is the D drive, choose: D:\DesignE\detour95.exe.) To start the tour after you have installed Design Essentials, choose the Tour option from the Help menu.

Installing Design Essentials
For instructions on how to install Design Essentials, refer to the Canon Creative 3 documentation.

Starting Design Essentials
Once the program has been installed, you are ready to begin using Design Essentials. Place the Canon Creative Disk 2 in your CD drive. Open the program from the Windows 95 Start menu, or by double-clicking its icon on the Windows 95 desktop.

Getting Help
In addition to this manual, Design Essentials also provides on-line Help. Should you need help when working with a design, press F1 for context-sensitive help. For help on how to use the program, choose Help from the Design Essentials Help menu to display the contents of the on-line Help, or choose the What's This? option then click on the item in the window about which you want help. For technical support, see the back cover of the Quick Start Guide included in the Canon Creative CD package.

Getting the Best Results
For tips on how to get the best results, see the on-line Help topic: Tips and Shortcuts. For example, if you are using a Canon Color BJC-610 or 620, you need to know which options will give you the best printing results. (All other Canon printers are automatically set to the optimum settings.) You should also print directly from your computer to the printer, to increase printing speed.
